What this means to you as a current Media Mechanic client:
This may or may not cause problems for current Media Mechanic hosting clients which are running PHP 4 pages/scripts in their website.

What the heck is PHP5 (or 4 for that matter)?
PHP 5 and 4 (PHP Hypertext Preprocessor) are computer scripting language environments designed to allow for the production of dynamic web pages build in the PHP programming language.

Why the upgrade?
PHP 5 is dramatically more powerful than PHP 4 and allows for much more advanced ways of programming dynamic websites (called Object Oriented Programming). PHP5 has been available for some time now. I have waited to upgrade until it sufficiently replaced PHP4 as the industry standard.

Why will I experience difficulties?
For many of you, you won’t notice a thing (this will not affect HTML/CSS/XML or Flash sites). But for a few of you that Media Mechanic has built advanced PHP sites for (E-commerce, database, etc) the old PHP4 code may not be fully compliant with the new PHP5 environment.

What do I do if I experience problems?
If your website is suddenly broken, contact me immediately so I can inspect your website to determine if the breakage is related to the switch to PHP5 – if so, I will correct any compliance issues free of charge as part of your website/hosting purchase agreement.
